Tranquility and Silence

The Sisters of Child Jesus in Spoleto

The Sisters of Child Jesus in Spoleto was founded by Anna Moroni and Cosimo Berlinsani in 1671 in Rome.

The house of Spoleto was the first foundation after that in Rome.
Orsola Petroni, a rich and devout woman of Spoleto, gave two Sisters of Child Jesus the access to some of her houses near St. Nicolò Church, to make them come to Rome and establish the new congregation. In 1834, the Sisters of Child Jesus moved definitively to St. Angelo Monastery .
The building is artistically and historically valuable, especially the Renaissance portico, and is characterized by the presence of the church dedicated to San Michele Arcangelo, dating back to 1700.
This church of particular historical and cultural interest, is known for the presence of an important organ inside.

Spoleto, rich in history and testimonies of the most diverse eras, really has a lot to offer visitors.

Thanks to the richness of its artistic heritage and disposal of theatres, in 1958 Spoleto was chosen by the master Gian Carlo Menotti to host his Festival of Two Worlds: an extraordinary event that innovatively aims at giving voice to all forms of artistic expression, from theatre to dance, from classical to contemporary music, passing through cinema and science.

Find Out How to Reach Spoleto

Spoleto is located at the southern end of the Valle Umbra, a vast alluvial plain created in prehistoric times by the presence of a vast lake. The town developed on the hill Sant’Elia, a low hilly promontory at the foot of Monteluco and further down to the river Tessino.
